Karachi Stock Exchange Weekly Analysis 11 September, 2011

The Karachi Stock Exchange (KSE) market activity was bullish. KSE – 100 index has reached 11,286.21 points by gaining of 215 points or 1.95 per cent. According to analysts, A combination of improved law and order situation, renewed institutional participation and positive FII flows saw the bourse register a positive closing

Following news have played vital role in Karachi Stock Market index movement:

  • Easing of circular debt concerns after the Finance Ministry released funds for the energy sector
  • Recovery in global stocks, commodities and International Oil prices
  • During the week important results were announced by Hubco, PTC, DGKC, and NML
  • Chemicals and banks led the way as they outperformed the 100-share index by 3.6 percent and 2.7 percent, respectively, while oil and gas sector underperformed the index by 0.7 percent
  • Attock Group of Companies, which includes heavyweights like Pakistan Oilfields Limited (POL), Attock Petroleum, Attock Refinery and National Refinery Limited (NRL), have been actively traded in the past week on speculation about their earnings and payouts
  • KSE market will continue the upward momentum during the next week as some of the largest listed companies announce full-year financial results
  • National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) hit the upper lock day after day, appreciating 20 percent overall. There seems to be no clear reason for so much interest, but analysts said some large institutions which had earlier sold the valuable share at high price were buying it back cheap
  • Lotte Pakistan PTA has again become one of the most traded stocks. It surged eight percent during the week in consequence of the rise in price of cotton
  • SNGPL restores gas to Industrial Zone I

Pakistan Refinery, Pak Telephone, National Bank of Pakistan, NetSol Technologies and Arif Habib Corporation were the major gainers while Media Times Limited, Millat Tractors, Rafhan Maize, TRG Pakistan and Pak Cables were major losers at KSE this week
