Karachi Stock Exchange Weekly Analysis 7 Aug, 2011

The Karachi Stock Exchange (KSE) market has suffered the deepest plunge since last two years. KSE 100 Index has lost 4 percent in single day (Friday), which is the highest single day drop since 19 October, 2009. The Karachi Stock Exchange (KSE) 100-share index has reached 11,375 points by shedding of 829 points or 7 percent which is the lowest close since last 23 weeks. Almost all sectors have badly affected by this downfall.

Following news have played vital role in Karachi Stock Market index movement:

  • Global markets have fall, world markets have shed 6-7 percent e.g. Sensex, DJI etc.
  • According to international Stock News, US markets still reeling from the near-default of the US government, Europe took centre stage as the precarious economic conditions in Italy came to the fore during the week
  • Political turmoil, uncertainty and terrorist activities in country has made investors more cautious
  • Although market was opened positively and investors have welcomed and celebrated the 50 basis point cut in Monetary Policy announced by SBP (State Bank of Pakistan)
  • Petroleum and gas prices have reached a record level
  • According to analysts the steep downfall of Karachi Stock Exchange (KSE) market can provide investors new opportunities for buying as the companies are announcing high double digit earning growth and better payouts
Lotte Pakistan, JSCL (Jahangir Siddiquie Co.), Fauji Fertilizer Bin Qasim, NBP and HUBCO were the volume leaders. Fazal Spinn, Nadeem Tex, Sanofi Aventis, New Jubilee Insurance, Blessed Text, Pakistan Tobacco Company, Shifa Int Hospitals Ltd, Meezan Bank and Pak Suzuki Motors were the major gainers while Nestle Pak, Siemens Engg, Rafhan Maize, Unilever Foods, Millat Tractors, K.E.S.C., Azgard Nine, TRG Pakistan, Pace (Pak) Ltd and P.I.A were major losers at KSE last week.
